A Brief Synopsis of "Brief"
Brief: Make a Bigger Impact By Saying Less
At 226 pages, this is a book that could have profited by following its own advice. Making the case that in today's business world we are inundated with communications and meetings, most of them unfocused and rambling.
The key takeaways, in my view, were the sections on BRIEF maps and narrative maps, found respectively on pages 51-56 and 69-72.
A BRIEF map is a framework for organizing any communication, keeping things clear and consistent. It is an acronym for:
I: Information for inclusion
F: Follow-up questions
Long story short, Brief would have worked better as an article than as a book. And as it turns out, there is an excellent article on it over at Forbes.
